ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Clubs and Organizations
There are several clubs within the Department that provide opportunities for students to learn leadership skills and begin their involvement with professional engineering associations. Such involvement is important for building a network of colleagues and communicating across specialties and time zones as parts of one's life-long learning and professional development.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest professional engineering society with about 350,000 members around the world. Our campus has a student chapter of the IEEE that is affiliated with the Phoenix IEEE Section. Chapter activities include field trips, invited lectures, and project work under the supervision of a faculty advisor. Within the IEEE structure there are also the possibility of IEEE society Chapters, for example in The IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, and many others. The IEEE has over 30 of these specialist Societies that an IEEE Student member may join. Click here to visit the Web site of the national organization.
Eta Kappa Nu
Eta Kappa Nu is the electrical engineering national honor society with membership limited to the very best students. Students are eligible for election to this honor society during their Junior year if their grade point average is superior. The Department has a Rover Society that is focused on autonomous vehicles and robotics. Membership is open to any student in the department. There are research groups in the Department open to any interested student. Topics depend on the present research interests of the faculty. Computer vision and pattern recognition are two topics that are usually available. Click here to visit the Web site of the national organization.
