BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Junior Year in Electrical Engineering

Transition to the third year marks a milestone in the life of an EE student. The upper division program in EE is a rigorous portion of the 4 year degree program. By this time the basic sciences are part of a student's knowledge base on which all future engineering work is built.

Major Divisions of Electrical Engineering

Junior students have their first hands-on design experience by constructing entire electronic systems under the guidance of a faculty member.

The Junior year now concentrates on the major divisions of EE. The program here at ERAU is focused on electrical systems, many of which are valued in the aerospace professions but which, in general, constitute the basis of all electrical systems in all fields of applications, from biomedical to electric power applications; from microamperes to megavolts; from binary data to high power radio transmission of RF energy.

Design Experience

Building on the circuits work in the past year we now study more advanced concepts in circuits and use circuit models to analysis solid state devices and systems. Design of amplifiers and other small but complex systems is the key to the junior year. Engineers are designers and the first real design experience in electrical engineering takes place here in Year 3 of the program.

Data handling systems and power handling systems are two significant parts of the program. Electric and magnetic field studies are applicable both to large radiating systems and well as micro connections in integrated circuits. Linear filters are studied and designed and extensive laboratory experiences begin to give a hands-on component to the program. In addition to designing and building, systems engineers are called upon to manage teams, so the program includes a course in engineering management largely focused on economics and financial issues in technical systems.
