ROOMMATE SELECTION
One of the things a student thinks about when getting ready for university life is who will be my roommates? People often wonder will we like the same things? Will we get along? These are common questions.
While we cannot guarantee the perfect match, we do have a roommate matching process that is effective in pairing people. When you have been accepted to ERAU, Housing and Residence Life will send to you a housing packet that will have enclosed a Housing Application & Contract. Please note the roommate preference section when filling it out. This form is the key to selecting a roommate that will be compatible with you. We ask that you fill this out honestly and openly, giving answers that reflect who you are, not necessarily the person you may want to be. Once you have completed the Housing Contract, send it back to us and we will begin the sorting and matching process.
We will also offer new incoming students the opportunity to choose their own roommates. As long as the request is mutual and both student contracts have been received before the matching process begins, we will pair you with your chosen roommate, if possible.
Contracts received early have a better chance for matching. As soon as we have all of our residents paired, we begin making specific building and room assignments. During the summer, you will receive information about your assignment including your roommate’s name and telephone number. This will give you a chance to call your new roommate and get to know each other before you meet in person.

WHAT TO BRING
Cleaning supplies (vacuums are available through your RA), bed and bath linens (extra long twin bedding needed), toiletries, telephone, stereo, alarm clock, floor lamp (non-halogen), computer, (laptops preferred for space consideration) and room decor items and a lockable footlocker or fire safe for personal belongings. You may also need other items; however, this decision is best made when you have had the opportunity to talk with your roommate.

WHAT NOT TO BRING
Candles or oil lamps, incense, microwaves, hot plates, portable electric heaters, open flame propane burners, halogen lamps, and other items that create external heat are not permitted in the halls due to fire safety concerns/regulations. Guns (paintball, BB, etc.), ammunition, knives longer than 3 inches or any weapons are not allowed on campus.
The use of amplified instruments is not permitted in the Residence Halls; however students can have them as long as they are not played in the halls (this includes, but is not limited to electric guitars, drums or other acoustic instruments).
Toasters, electric frying pans, and toaster ovens are only allowed in the kitchen area of Village apartments, common kitchens in the Village, or kitchenettes in Mingus Mountain. Microwaves are provided in designated areas so microwaves brought in from outside the residence halls are strictly prohibited.

TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS
Sometimes more students will be accepted than we can house, resulting in a temporary overflow situation. In these situations, students will be assigned to temporary spaces. Usually these students will be reassigned and moved into permanent spaces within 10 days of the first day of class.
Contracts received by June 15th (December 15th for Spring) will be given first priority for assignments. All room assignments are subject to change during the summer.
Changes can be due to overcrowding, contract cancellations, or other unforeseen reasons.
