Dr. Peter Powers
Medical Doctor
The powerful and inspiring story of Dr. Peter
Lee Powers is testimony to the healing powers within each of
us. Diagnosed with Diabetes at age 14, Peter still led a full
and active life. He excelled as a student and athlete, attending
medical school in Madison, Wisconsin. He has run over 30 marathons
(thus far) and is an avid cross-country skier, cyclist, river
rafter, kayaker and folk dancer. But life wasn't always easy.
In fact he is lucky to be alive.
Tragedy struck early and often in his life. His
teenage sister, Charlotte, was killed by a drunk driver, and
10 years later, his other sister, Ellen, died in a plane crash.
Then his own health took a dramatic downturn. By age 34, he
was completely blind from Diabetic Retinopathy. He was also
out of a job.
Refusing to accept this fate, he began to study
expanded medicine. While still blind, he began working again.
Now living in Alaska, he became President of The American Society
of Handicapped Physicians, and was later named Handicapped Alaskan
of the Year. Miraculously, he also healed his blindness.
But soon after he was diagnosed with Diabetic Nephropathy
(kidney failure), and confronted with probable death within
18 months. Again he faced a challenge. Again, he won.
Today, Dr. Powers bears living proof to the reality
of self healing. A world-renowned speaker, and a family and
sports medicine physician, he is an inspiration to all he meets.
In addition to a thriving practice in Prescott, Arizona, he
travels the world speaking about his disease and the direct
link which he discovered between healing and the mind.
