PRESCOTT'S GOLDEN EAGLES ARE THE NATIONAL
CHAMPIONS OF 2007!
EMBRY-RIDDLE’S GOLDEN EAGLES SOAR
AND CAPTURE NATIONAL VICTORY FOR 6th TIME
Prescott, Ariz., May 14, 2007 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott Campus Golden Eagles Flight Team brought home another first place victory, competing in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) National SAFECON.
Prescott wins the National Championship!
The Golden Eagles of Embry Riddle – Prescott have won their 6th National Competition.
The Golden Eagles finished with a total of 440 points, the University of North Dakota finished 2nd with 351 points, and Embry Riddle’s Daytona Beach team earned a third place team finish with 318 points.
The competition was much closer than the 89 point difference between 1st and 2nd. The awards banquet was an absolute nail biter!
The Golden Eagles also captured 1st place trophy in Flying Events, Ground Events, and the Judges Trophy Ranking.
Golden Eagles placed 1st in 4 of the 11 individual events.
Craig Morrison Award
Junior Peter Grey placed 1st in the Computer Accuracy and Simulated Comprehensive Aircraft Navigation Events. Peter is a repeat National Champion having previously won the Computer Accuracy event in 2005. Peter also won the Craig Morrison Award given for the contestant who scores highest in a combination of the scores of the Preflight Inspection, Computer Accuracy, and Simulated Comprehensive Aircraft Navigation Events. Senior Jacob Lindvig won the 1st place trophy in the Power-Off Landing event. The team of Seniors Andrew Trone and Sascha Korzep earned 1st place in the Crew Resource Management/Line Orientated Flight Training Event.
Amazing Performance
The entire team performance was absolutely amazing. Eight of the Golden Eagles graduated a week ago and there is no more fitting of a conclusion to four years of hard work than winning a National Championship! Eighteen Golden Eagles will return next year and put this year’s experience into winning the Prescott Campus’ first Back-to-Back championship!
