Master of Science in Safety Science

The Master of Science in Safety Science (MSSS) degree program is designed to provide the experiential and practical educational experience necessary for a person to enter the broad fields of Aviation Safety and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) as a functioning professional.

A program graduate will have the knowledge necessary to sit for the National Professional Certification Examinations in Safety (CSP), Industrial Hygiene (CIH) and/or Ergonomics (CPE).A program graduate will have the technical skills and initiative needed to both solve workplace problems that involve occupational safety and health, and to address compliance issues created by the state and federal agencies that regulate occupational safety and health.

The MSSS is a 36 credit hour program organized around a core of required courses, which together with elective coursework provide students with the fundamental knowledge needed to be functional as a safety professional. The core courses include technical courses in occupational safety, an applied statistics course, and the graduate research project or thesis.

The balance of the program allows students to focus their learning on an area or areas that are consistent with their personal career goals.Elective courses are available in all of the previously mentioned OSH sub-disciplines, as well as Aviation Safety.
