Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University International Programs
Summer Programs
Summer programs are by far our most popular kind of program! Not only will you experience new worlds and live in new cultures, but you can take the exact same courses (with ERAU professors) you would take if you were to stay on campus, for half the price!! The savings on tuition help offset other costs of the program, helping students save money and potentially spend less by going abroad compared to staying on campus! So don't wait! Apply TODAY! Spots are limited and fill up quickly. So don't risk missing out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel. A whole new world is just a summer away!!
Quick Overview
- All programs are 4-5 weeks long and transfer up to 6 credit hours - Tuition for all our summer programs is half- price - Financial aid applies for all programs - All courses are taught in English, except language courses (no prior language skills required) - Grades for all summer courses are Pass/Fail - Most programs include 3-day weekends - Field trips are included on all programs
Requirements
- At least Sophomore standing (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis) - At least a 2.5 GPA in most cases - A valid Passport and/or required Visas (Passport number required by April 3, 2010) - $100 ($75 refundable) deposit (refundable until March 13, 2010) - An OPEN mind!!
Applying
Applications are due on March 13, 2010. To apply you can download the form directly from our Applications page. Please read the Summer Program Application Instructions section within the application carefully. Incomplete applications will NOT be processed (if you don't have a Passport yet, apply for one immediately and give us the number as soon as you can) so be sure to carefully fill them out and follow all directions. The $100 refundable deposit is required to process your application and must be paid at your school's cashier's office. Make sure you specify the program(s) and terms(s) (Summer A, B, or A/B) you're paying for, and bring a copy of the receipt(s) to us along with any other applicable supplemental items to complete the application.
Acceptance Policy and Procedures
Every year, ERAU's summer abroad programs spark enormous interest among our students (for obvious reasons!), Furthermore, the international nature of our programs requires that only qualified, motivated, and responsible students participate to ensure not only a smooth -running program, but also to ensure their safety, and that of the entire group. Finally, as can be expected, priority needs to be given to students who may not have another opportunity to participate due to their class status and impending graduation. Due in large part to these reasons, the following procedures and considerations will be taken when accepting applicants to all our programs:
1. Although a "First come, first served" will not be strictly applied, applicants who apply earlier and who meet the requirements set henceforth will have priority over those who apply later.
2. Students with a 3.0 GPA or higher will have priority until January 30, 2010.
3. Students with a GPA lower than 2.5 will be admitted at the International Programs Office's and professors' (ERAU professor(s) leading the program) discretion. Students with a GPA higher than 2.5 will have priority over students that have a GPA lower than 2.5 until the application deadline. Among students with a GPA lower than a 2.5, priority will be based on GPA.
4. All applications will be reviewed by both the International Programs Office AND the professor(s) who will be leading the programs. The professors will have the final word on who is to be accepted. Furthermore, each professor will be free to require supplemental information from the applicants if they so wish. If this is the case, the professor will contact the applicants after the applications have been reviewed.
5. Upperclassmen will have priority but ONLY until November 28, 2009. After this date, all applicants will have equal priority as far as student status is concerned.
6. Students from other universities may be allowed to participate in ERAU's summer programs. However, ERAU students will have priority until January 30, 2010. Furthermore, non-ERAU students will have to pay all lab fees and costs BEFORE the program starts at a date to be determined by the International Programs Office.
7. Participants who do not need the credits offered by the program and graduate before the program starts, will have to pay the program fees and costs BEFORE the program starts at a date to be determined by the International Programs Office.
Important Academic Information
1. Most programs include a language course. This course is usually a basic, survival language course with limited reading and writing assignments that does not constitute a typical humanities course. As such, language courses will be considered open electives and may not replace HU 14X series courses or lower-level humanities credit unless an optional project or series of projects assigned by a professor from the Humanities and Social Sciences Department is successfully completed. A $50 fee to cover professor costs will be assessed to those wishing to take advantage of this optional upgrade.
2. Courses that have been approved for EC (Economics) credit may be substituted for SS (Social Science) credit if desired.
