Transit of Venus captured on film at viewing event hosted by College of Arts and SciencesThe College of Arts and Sciences and the Physical Sciences Department, with support from the Chancellor's office, hosted a viewing event of the June 8, 2004 transit of Venus. The once-in-a-lifetime crossing of the planet Venus between the Sun and the Earth was captured on videotape (see Web versions below) and was visible to the Eastern United States, Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. Read Embry-Riddle's press release about the event. In the movie, Steve "Dr. Sky" Kates discusses the significance of this astronomical event. Kates is an educational consultant and the host of a nationally broadcast radio program out of Phoenix, Ariz., that focuses on astronomy, space, and aviation issues.
