Welcome from Dr. Tim Brady, Dean of the College of Aviation
The COA building houses the following academic departments: Aeronautical Science, Applied Aviation Sciences, and the Flight Training Department. Embry-Riddle's Aeronautical Science degree (Professional Pilot) has the largest enrollment of any similar undergraduate degree program in the nation. The Flight Training Department has a fleet of 75 aircraft, including Cessna C-172s, Piper PA-28R Arrows, and Piper PA-44 Seminoles. Through its cadre of full- and part-time instructors, the department offers eight flight courses. These include instruction that will lead to a private pilot's license, an instrument rating, and single- and multi-engine commercial certificates. The department offers an advanced multiengine navigation course and Certified Flight Instructor Aircraft and Instrument Instructor ratings. The COA building also houses classrooms and specialty laboratories that support various degrees including the Air Traffic Management degree, the Applied Meteorology degree, and the Safety Science degree. The Air Traffic Management degree has air traffic laboratories that simulate both the enroute and the control tower air traffic environments. Next to the COA building is the Simulation Center which contains the most advanced ab-initio aircraft simulation on the planet. The Center is equipped with aircraft-specific Cessna 172 and Piper Seminole Flight Training Devices, plus a Canadair Regional Jet simulator (FTD). Each of these devices exactly simulates the aircraft including the flying qualities as well as powerful, realistic visuals. The College of Aviation also serves as a living laboratory that can research all elements of an air transportation system including dynamic modeling of security systems, air traffic control interfaces, and safety systems through its highly sophisticated aircraft and air traffic simulation. These simulations can then be incorporated into the real world where a fleet of airplanes can bring the simulation scenarios to life in an in-flight laboratory. I invite you to explore each of these exciting academic programs and departments by visiting our links. Honors ProgramOur Honors Program provides students with exceptional backgrounds the opportunity to enhance their learning in their programs of study. The Program is designed to attract and retain top students and to develop their communicative, analytical, critical, and research skills, nurturing a love of life-long learning, leadership, and service. The Honors Program sponsors a series of lectures presented by speakers of national and international reputation. The Honors Program Distinguished Speaker Series brings stimulating speakers to campus each year.
