Student Clubs and Organizations

ASCE (Averican Society of Civil Engineers)

The objective of the ASCE student program is to help students prepare themselves for entry into the Civil Engineering profession and society. Students must master

principles and techniques of engineering to earn their degree. There are, in addition, important non-technical subjects, generally called "professional matters," which are not usually covered in class work. Many aspects of these professional matters lend themselves to Student Chapter, Club, or Group programs.Student Chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers also help civil engineering students begin those professional contacts and associations which, continued through professional life, are so valuable to the practicing engineer in serving mankind and the engineering profession more effectively.

Typical Chapter activities consist of holding regular meetings with a professional speaker, meeting with the ASCE professional Section/Branch in the area, having social events, participating in regional conference competitions each spring, attending workshops for student chapter leaders, and attending the ASCE national convention. The leadership of the Chapter consists of elected student officers, a Faculty Advisor, and two Practitioner Advisors. The Practitioner Advisors are the students' link to the professional Section or Branch in the area.
