The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University experience is a journey to excellence in aviation education, and the Department of Aeronautical Science is leading the way. Embry-Riddle's Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Science is the preeminent degree of its kind in the world. Our faculty is dedicated to excellence in aviation education, with a motto of preparing career-minded students to be "Ready to Work, Prepared to Lead."

Our faculty's career aviation experience covers a broad spectrum. Students will learn from:

  • Airline Pilots
  • Military Pilots
  • Top Gun Graduates
  • Test Pilots
  • Corporate and Commuter Pilots
  • Aeronautical Engineers
  • Chief Flight Instructors
  • Flight Safety and Resource Management Experts
  • Dispatchers
  • Navigators

Inside the Regional Jet Flight Training DeviceThe Aeronautical Science Department boasts a "global" and diverse student body with dozens of countries represented. The successful Aeronautical Science student comes with a strong background in the science and math disciplines. A background with four years of English, three years of math, two years of lab science and two years of social science is required. Preferably, the student has completed courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, physics and computers. Occassionally, students are accepted conditionally and are offered remedial courses to help prepare them for the Aeronautical Science curriculum.

The Embry-Riddle B.S. in Aeronautical Science program combines flight training with academic preparation in the technical, leadership, and managerial aspects of aviation. We prepare our graduates directly for careers as airline, corporate, or military pilots.  Yet our cutting-edge curriculum also includes elements of aviation-related disciplines, such as aircraft safety, law, flight operations management, airway regulations, aircraft technologies, physiology, and professional standards. This approach to aviation education provides students an unequalled opportunity to know and understand the full scope of the aviation industry and accounts for our many, many graduates in positions of senior responsibility in the airline industry, government, the military, and the space program.

The Aeronautical Science Department also offers a B.S. degree in Aeronautics designed specifically for students who work, have worked, or desire to work in aviation-related careers. The Aeronautics degree is designed specifically for students who work, have worked, or desire to work in aviation-related careers. For students with existing aviation-related knowledge and skills, this degree acknowledges a student’s valuable acquired experience through the award of advanced standing prior-learning credit. The curriculum then builds on those skills and knowledge. The program also provides an opportunity for those students new to aviation to acquire aviation-specific knowledge through aviation-related coursework. This combination of a student’s aviation learning, aviation courses, business, computer science, economics, humanities, communications, social sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences, along with professional development elective courses and a minor course of study, will prepare graduates for a career in an aviationrelated field.

The Aviation Maintenance Science associate's degree made up of general education courses and technical courses and labs that lead fo FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A & P) mechanic's certification. The degree is composed of 66 credit hours, 18 hours of general education coursework, and 48 hours of airframe and powerplant technical courses. The associate's degree will flow seamlessly into the AMS bachelor of science degree. Additional information on this degree may be found in the University's catalog.

In keeping with the overall excellence of the Embry-Riddle educational experience, our flying program sets the standard for flight education in the United States and, indeed, the world. Our program utilizes a highly experienced instructor force, close integration of flight and classroom syllabi, a very "young" aircraft fleet, advanced visual simulators, and Regional Jet flight training devices. This powerful combination of resources gives our students the opportunity to develop professional aviation skills that are the envy of other universities and unequalled in private industry.

We look forward to meeting or hearing from you and discussing this wonderful program further.
