ACTIVITIES

The Cadet Wing organizes many activities for cadet participation.  A few of these are listed below:

Leadership Lab (LLAB) consists of a two-hour class usually held on Mondays at 0700-0900.  LLAB is a co-requisite of AFROTC academic classes designed to provide you with the initial military skills essential to becoming an effective Air Force officer.

Physical Training (PT) is an integral part of AFROTC. You must be fit to fight. We hold two one-hour PT sessions each week. These workouts are typically intense but often are integrated with fun activities such as a Beach Run, Warrior competitions, and the occasional Dizzy-Bat race. The sun may still be low at 0700 and occasionally 0600, but motivation is definitely high.

The base visit program is designed to motivate applicants toward entry into AFROTC and members of the General Military Course (GMC) toward entry into the Professional Officer Course (POC). The base visit program does this by acquainting cadets with specific duties performed by Air Force officers to assist them in selecting a specific career field and allowing cadets and applicants to observe Air Force operations and experience Air Force life.

This AFROTC Flight Orientation Program (FOP) is designed to assist recruiting and retention initiatives. AFROTC cadets in good standing are eligible to participate in FOP. Cadets may receive up to 4 front seat and 4 back seat sorties during their entire tenure in AFROTC. The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) provides the sorties using their aircraft, usually a Cessna 182. The FOP sorties are free to AFROTC cadets.

As a homecoming tradition, graduates of Embry-Riddle fly in to relive their undergraduate years. Detachment 157 also hosts many Air Force crews and their aircraft for display to the public.

Held once every fall semester, the professional officer corps (upper-classmen) participate in this military tradition. Watch out for flying projectiles and be prepared to take a drink from the grog bowl.

The cadet corps regularly holds commander's calls throughout the semester. Many past events include beach volleyball, sumo-wrestling, and hosting distinguished guests such as the Thunderbirds.

Once each spring semester, Detachment 157 hosts a formal gala in service dress. Cadets are encouraged to bring a date, review the year, and dance the night away.

Organized by cadets every semester, everyone including beginners is welcome to participate in this event.  The team that eliminates all of the players on the opposing team wins.
