Daytona Beach Campus - College of Engineering Department of Aerospace Engineering Mission Statement
![]() The role of the Aerospace Engineering Department in fulfilling the University's commitment to provide career-oriented aviation/aerospace educational opportunities is to educate students in subjects dealing with the analysis and design of (a) mission-oriented vehicles for atmospheric and space flight; (b) ground support systems and facilities for aviation/aerospace operations; and (c) the manufacturing of aerospace vehicles and systems. To do so the department offers a program of study which its constituents have deemed appropriate for aerospace engineering entry-level career preparation. The department's courses constitute the engineering core and electives for the Bachelor of Science and the Master and Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering. Some of the department's courses are required as well in the civil engineering and engineering physics degree programs. The primary mission of the Aerospace Engineering Department is to offer its courses effectively and regularly enough that engineering students can make reasonable progress towards their degrees. Quality of instruction and adherence to the accreditation criteria of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) are paramount. Therefore, the department must maintain a properly credentialed and capable faculty who willingly teach in their areas of expertise and who ably advise students on academic as well as career matters. The faculty are expected to be involved in research, grants or outside professional activity to the extent that such activity supports the educational programs of the University and keeps the faculty and the curriculum current and in tune with the needs of the aviation/aerospace industry. |
