Embry-Riddle Hosts JETS TEAMS Competition

Competition for the Year 2004

This year again, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University acted as a regional host for the 2004 JETS-TEAMS Academic Competition for area high schools. The competition was held on Saturday, February 21, 2004, with Aerospace Engineering Professor Dr. Tej Gupta supervising the competition as Host Coordinator.

The Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) is an outreach arm of the National Society of Professional Engineers. The TEAMS (Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) Competition is one of the several activities organized by JETS.
TEAMS are an interscholastic competition that provide a challenge to help prepare students for tomorrow's world today. Students learn how the math and science concepts they are learning in high schools are applied to real-world problems. In addition, the TEAMS program encourages team cooperation and group effort, cooperative learning strategy, and problem-solving skills.

Four  high schools with 45 students and six  Varsity teams competed in a three-hour test on Saturday morning, February 21. From this one-day, two-part competition, local, state and national awards and recognition will be determined.

We provided breakfast, lunch, handed out T-shirts and balls (courtesy of admissions office) ordered from the National Headquarters, pens and certificates to all the competitors.

Assisting Dr. Gupta in this important event were, Dr. Ashok Gurjar, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering; Dr. Habib Eslami, Professor and acting Chair of Aerospace Engineering Department; three students, Thuy Nguyen, Khoi Nguyen, and Ryan Armstrong from the Sigma Gamma Tau Student Chapter; as well as Mary Balistreri, Administrative Assistant, Aerospace Engineering Department; and Betty  Schuck, Administrative Assistant, College of Engineering. In addition, Mary Balistreri has helped Dr. Gupta all year long in sending invitation letters and reminders to area high schools.

At the local level in the varsity division, first place was won by Deland High School Team A, second place by Deland High School Team B, and third place by Mainland High School. Results of this competition and the Part II test were sent to National Headquarters for state and national rankings. The national results will be announced in the 4th week of April 2004.

Dr. Gupta is grateful to all those individuals who helped him to host this important National Competition and extend his heartfelt thanks.

Embry-Riddle's Aerospace Engineering department is ranked number 1 by U.S. News and World Report for the fourth year in a row.  Embry-Riddle's Aerpospace Engineering Program is compared to other universities without doctorage programs.  See news release

ERAU Team Places in International Robotics Competition

The Embry-Riddle Robotics Association  finished second in the Tenth Annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, an international competition sponsored by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Armament Command (TACOM). The competition was held July 7 & 8, 2002, at the Coronado Springs Resort (at Disney World) as a prelude to the AUVSI National Symposium.

EMBRY-RIDDLE WINS NASA/FAA DESIGN COMPETITION

NASA, the FAA, and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) announced the winners of their 2000-2001 National General Aviation Design Competition at a news conference and ceremony Saturday, July 28, at AirVenture 2001, the Experimental Aircraft Association's Annual Convention and Fly-In at Oshkosh, Wis.
