Phone: 386-226-6198 President Johnson Receives UAA Aviation Safety Award
The Lauber Award is granted each year to the individual or organization who demonstrates a clear advancement in aviation safety. It is presented in honor of John K. Lauber, a pioneer in the field of aviation safety and human factors. “Dr. Johnson’s long history of dedication to safety is reflected in Embry-Riddle’s record of safe flying and operations,” said Daniel McCune, the university’s associate vice president for safety. “Dr. Johnson goes to great lengths to ensure safety in all aspects of the Embry-Riddle community,” McCune said. “He provided superior leadership towards recovery and reconstruction after a tornado stormed through the Daytona Beach campus in 2006 and has provided resources for university safety.” Johnson established a safety culture program to teach the university’s employees the value of safety and accident prevention on campus. Embry-Riddle has a zero accident rate under his leadership and is enjoying one of the safest periods in its history. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, offers more than 30 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in its colleges of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business, and Engineering. Embry-Riddle educates students at residential campuses in Prescott, Ariz., and Daytona Beach, Fla., through the Worldwide Campus at more than 150 locations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and through online learning.
