Phone: 386-226-6525 President’s Speaker Series at Embry-Riddle Returns for 2010-2011 Academic YearSeries Seeks to Educate Students, Create a Better Informed ElectorateDaytona Beach, Fla., Aug. 27, 2010 -- Beginning Sept. 9, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s President’s Speaker Series returns to the Daytona Beach campus for the 2010-2011 academic year. This year’s topics include immigration and civil rights, ethics and justice, homeland security and the environment, faith and citizenship, and the November midterm elections. Delivered through 90-minute forums, the President’s Speaker Series aims to engage Embry-Riddle students and Central Florida residents in current political issues, trigger productive debate, and produce a more educated electorate. Each forum will be moderated by Marc Bernier, special assistant to Embry-Riddle President John P. Johnson. All forums will be presented by the President’s Office and will be free and open to the public. In addition, these events will be broadcast live and recorded on the internet at www.kenneytv.com, 1150AM WNDB, and www.wndb.am. All events will be held on Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus in the Miller Instructional Center auditorium at 6 p.m. unless noted otherwise. Events:
John LeBoutillier, former New York congressman, now www.newsmax.com columnist and Fox News analyst, will discuss the upcoming November election and offer foreign policy analysis on current issues.
Dick Morris, political consultant, Fox News analyst, and bestselling author, will discuss his most recent book Catastrophe, and offer insight and predictions about the 2010 fall elections. A book signing will follow, as well as a question-and answer-session.
The Ethics of Criminal Justice. A panel discussion featuring 7th Circuit Judge Joseph Will, State Attorney R.J. Larizza, and Public Defender James Purdy, with remarks by ethicist James Shoopman, assistant professor of humanities and communication at Embry-Riddle.
Panel Discussion on Interfaith Diversity. Designed to prompt discussion and thoughts on faith heading into the holiday season, the panel will feature Embry-Riddle chaplains Rev. Melynne Rust and Rev. Tim Daly; Mohamed Camara, professor of humanities and social sciences at Embry-Riddle; and Rabbi David Kane of B’nai Torah in Ormond Beach. The discussion will center on how individuals live through their faith to be better, more productive citizens.
Homeland Security and the Environmental Risks. A panel featuring James Ramsay, professor of homeland security, and other experts still to be announced will discuss homeland security and environmental risks.
