Phone: 386-226-6198 Embry-Riddle Hosts Women in Math Day for Volusia County High School StudentsDaytona Beach, Fla., April 9, 2010 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will host its annual Women in Math Day on Friday, April 23, for female high school students in Volusia County and their mathematics teachers. The event, which promotes careers for women in mathematics, science, and engineering, will be held at the university’s Daytona Beach, Fla., campus in Room 101 of the Willie Miller Instructional Center. It is restricted to registered participants and news media. Program:

1:30-2:20 Workshop Presenter: Jacklyn Duff is lead electrical engineer for Orbiter Endeavour at the United Space Alliance (USA). She landed the job after completing a USA internship when she was an Embry-Riddle student majoring in Aerospace Engineering. As an intern, she inspected wiring, wrote repair procedures for any discrepancies detected, and did troubleshooting on the electrical systems. As an Embry-Riddle student, she also was a member of a rocket club that designed, built, and launched a rocket that reached a record-breaking altitude of 37.8 miles. In her spare time, Duff researches and develops composite rocket motor cases for small sounding rockets and is pursuing a M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle. This event is co-sponsored by Embry-Riddle’s Office of Diversity Initiatives and Department of Mathematics.
