Embry-Riddle’s Homecoming Entertainment Features Comedian and Country Singer

This Year’s Theme: “Illustrate Your Character”

Homecoming Logo Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 18, 2010 -- As Homecoming entertainment this year, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will present country singer Josh Thompson and comedian Stephen Lynch.

Other events during Embry-Riddle’s Homecoming Week, Nov. 1-7, include an imaginative parade that will bring to life the “Illustrate Your Character (Cartoon Characters)” Homecoming theme, a student talent show, and an outdoor showing of the movie “Toy Story 3.” For those who are sports-minded, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, and volleyball games are scheduled, as well as a scholarship golf tournament.

The Homecoming events listed below are free and open to the public unless noted otherwise.

Monday, Nov. 1

Spirit Sign Contest. 10 a.m. Student organizations and university departments are invited to show their Embry-Riddle pride and their creativity by decorating large wooden signs placed in the following locations around campus: Heritage Walkway, “A” Building Lawn, and Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park on the West Lawn. The spirit signs will be on display across campus the entire week of Homecoming. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Tuesday, Nov. 2

Chalk Art Contest. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of Jack R. Hunt Library, Embry-Riddle. Student organizations and individual students will compete by creating chalk drawings related to the Homecoming theme of “Illustrate Your Character.” Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Wednesday, Nov. 3

Air Jam. 8 p.m., John Paul Riddle Student Center Cafeteria, Embry-Riddle. Talented students will display their lip-sync and air-band abilities while competing for cash prizes. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Thursday, Nov. 4

Movie on the Lawn: “Toy Story 3.” 8 p.m., Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park on the West Lawn, next to the John Paul Riddle Student Center. The movie recounts the continuing adventures of Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and all their buddies. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Friday, Nov. 5

Alumni Return to Classes. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During Homecoming registration on campus, alumni will be given a list of classes they can attend to interact with former professors and current students. Embry-Riddle Eagle Open Golf Tournament. 11 a.m. registration, noon shotgun start, Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club, Ormond Beach. The 18-hole, four-person scramble will be followed by an awards ceremony in the clubhouse. The cost to participate is $100 per person for Embry-Riddle faculty, staff, and alumni; all others are $125. Included are greens fees, cart, range balls, lunch provided by Jimmy John’s, beverages on the course, and appetizers during the awards ceremony. The presenting sponsors are ICI Homes and FPL. Comedy Show. 8 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Stand-up comedian Stephen Lynch is the featured act in this live show. In his career highlights, Lynch competed in Comedy Central’s Stand Up Showdown and was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the movie “The Wedding Singer.” Admission is free for Embry-Riddle students, faculty, and staff with Eagle Card; each Eagle Card admits three guests. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Embry-Riddle Student Government Office. Tickets are $10 for local non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D. and $15 for general admission. Women’s Volleyball Game. 2 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. The women’s volleyball team will take on Southeastern University. Admission is free for Embry-Riddle students with Eagle Card and for children 5 and under. Admission is $3 for Embry-Riddle alumni with Alumni I.D. Homecoming Parade. 3:30 p.m. Floats and performances created by student groups and community organizations will make their way through campus, ending at the ICI Center. Men's Soccer Game. 5 p.m., Soccer Stadium next to ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. The team will take on Warner University in this quarterfinal match. Contact: (386) 323-5000.

Tailgate Party. 5-7 p.m., ICI Center Parking Lot, Embry-Riddle. This outdoor tailgate party and pep rally for the Embry-Riddle community includes free food and a performance by singer/songwriter Josh Thompson, whose debut album “Way Out Here” was released in February 2010 and rose to number nine on Billboard’s U.S. Country Music Chart. Men’s Basketball Game. 7 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. The Eagles will take on Tennessee Wesleyan College, and the Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime.
