Embry-Riddle Celebrates Diversity with Speaker Series

Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 16, 2010 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University welcomes a series of speakers and performances to celebrate diversity during the 2010-2011 academic year.

All events, unless otherwise noted, begin at 7 p.m. in the Gale Lemerand Auditorium, Willie Miller Instructional Center, on the university’s Daytona Beach campus at 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. The events are free and open to the public. The lecture series is sponsored by the University Office of Diversity Initiatives.

Aron Christian Gay Gaze: Exploring Gay Stereotypes in Advertising

Scholar Aron Christian is back. This multimedia presentation looks into advertising geared toward gay men in gay-friendly media. Asserting that a choice of images is a choice of worlds in contemporary advertising, Christian uncovers the complex process of cultural consumption and socialization at work as individuals shape not only their own cultural identities, but also their understanding of the cultural identities of others.

Elon James White is a Brooklyn-based comedian, writer, and host of the popular web series This Week in Blackness, a satirical look at race, politics, and pop culture in a so-called “post-racial” America. White has been a featured commentator on VH1’s Black to the Future and The Great Debate. Celebrate Black History Month with this comedic performance.
