Embry-Riddle Names Kevin Mannix as Director of Campus Safety

Daytona Beach, Fla., May 13, 2009 -- Kevin Mannix is the new director of campus safety at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus, where he previously held that title from 2004 to 2007 and was assistant director from 2001 to 2004.

Mannix has 29 years of experience in campus law enforcement, public safety, and crime prevention, holding such positions as director of public safety at Rowan University and administrative sergeant at the University of Rochester.

“We’re delighted to have Kevin back on the Daytona Beach campus,” said Sonja Taylor, dean of students. “Previously at Embry-Riddle he greatly enhanced our campus safety system by using a collective team approach with full involvement from students, faculty, and staff. We look forward to additional innovative programs in the future.”

Among his many accomplishments at Embry-Riddle, Mannix created and implemented the following:

  • A building liaison program that delivers emergency and crisis response training to employees who represent the buildings in which they work
  • A department and division student leadership initiative, known as a student crime prevention practitioner program, that provides peer safety and educational programming for students
  • A model crime prevention and personal safety program that reduces crime and protects people and property
Mannix holds an M.S. in education from the University of Rochester, a B.S. in political science from State University College of Brockport, and an A.A.S. in criminal justice from Corning Community College. He is a member of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
