Other events during Embry-Riddle’s Homecoming Week, Nov. 2-8, include an Industry/Career Expo, an aircraft display, an Air Jam student talent show, and an outdoor showing of the movie “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” For the sports-minded, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, and volleyball games are scheduled, as well as a golf tournament. The Homecoming events listed below are free and open to the public unless noted otherwise. Monday, Nov. 2 Spirit Sign Contest. 8 a.m. Student organizations and university departments are invited to show their Embry-Riddle pride by decorating large wooden signs placed in the following locations around campus: Heritage Walkway, “A” Building Lawn, and Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park on the West Lawn. The spirit signs will be on display across campus the entire week of Homecoming. Contact: (386) 226-6039. Tuesday, Nov. 3 Chalk Art Contest. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of Jack R. Hunt Library, Embry-Riddle. Student organizations and individual students will compete by creating chalk drawings related to the Homecoming theme of “Bright Lights, Big Cities.” Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 4-5 Industry/Career Expo. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Employers in aviation/aerospace, business, engineering, and high-tech fields will be on hand to talk with jobseekers. Attendees should bring their resumes. Thursday, Nov. 5 Movie on the Lawn: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” 8 p.m., Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park on the West Lawn, next to the John Paul Riddle Student Center. In this sixth film in the Harry Potter saga, Harry and his friends continue to battle Lord Voldemort. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Contact: (386) 226-6039. Friday, Nov. 6 Alumni Fly-In Arrivals. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Embry-Riddle Flight Line. Alumni flying their own aircraft to campus for Homecoming are encouraged to arrive during this time period to be greeted by other alumni. Alumni Return to Classes. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. During Homecoming registration on campus, alumni will be given a list of classes they can attend to interact with former professors and current students. Embry-Riddle Eagle Open Golf Tournament. 12:30 p.m. shotgun start, LPGA International, Champions Course, Daytona Beach. The 18-hole, four-person scramble will be followed by an awards ceremony in the LPGA Clubhouse. Lunch will be provided by Jimmy Johns. The cost to participate is $100 per person for faculty, staff, and alumni; all others are $125. The cost covers green fees, cart, lunch, appetizers during the awards ceremony, and beverages on the golf course. The presenting sponsors are Consolidated-Tomoka Land Co. and Florida Power & Light. This live show features comedian Daniel Tosh, who currently has a weekly series on Comedy Central, “Tosh.0,” in which he uses razor-sharp wit and biting commentary to delve into all aspects of the Internet, from the absurd to the ingenious. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for Embry-Riddle students, faculty, and staff with Eagle Card; each Eagle Card admits three guests. The women’s volleyball team will take on Southeastern University of Lakeland, Fla. At this final regular-season home match, known as Senior Day, Embry-Riddle seniors Kristen Hassett, Rebecca Heller, and Savannah Trakes will be honored before the start of the match. Homecoming Parade. 3:30 p.m. Floats and performances created by student and community organizations will make their way through campus, ending at the ICI Center. The floats will be joined by several familiar characters, including the Pillsbury Doughboy, the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee, and McGruff the Crime Dog. The best viewing of the parade performances will be in front of Jack R. Hunt Library. Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039. Tailgate Party. 5 p.m., ICI Center Parking Lot, Embry-Riddle. This outdoor party for the Embry-Riddle community features the rock band Blessid Union of Souls. The group, which has had eight Top 40 hits, released its sixth album, Close to the Edge, last year. The tailgate party also includes interactive games, giveaways, and food. Contact: (386) 226-6039. Alumni Basketball Game. 5:30 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Two teams of former players will challenge each other in this Blue vs. Gold opener for the Homecoming game. Admission is free for Embry-Riddle students with Eagle Card and for children 5 and under. Admission is $3 for Embry-Riddle alumni with Alumni I.D. Card, non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D., military with I.D., senior citizens over 55, and children 6 and older. Admission is $5 for all others. Admission also includes the Homecoming game. The Eagles will take on Montreat College of North Carolina, and the Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime.
