Florida Trend Magazine Names Embry-Riddle Among State’s Best Employers

Best Companies Logo Daytona Beach, Fla., July 28, 2009 — Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has been named one of Florida’s Best Companies to Work For in first-ever rankings by Florida Trend magazine and the Best Companies Group.

Named as the top 100 employers in the state are 25 small companies, 50 medium companies, and 25 large companies. Embry-Riddle ranks 20th in the large company category. The University has 1,200 employees in Florida and 1,300 others worldwide.

“This new honor confirms Embry-Riddle’s status as an employer of choice in Florida,” said Irene McReynolds, vice president of human resources at Embry-Riddle. “In other rankings, last year the University was named one of Central Florida’s Top 25 Companies for Working Families by the Orlando Sentinel, our first year in the Top 25 and our fourth straight year on the Sentinel’s Top 100 list.”

Embry-Riddle employees enjoy competitive salaries, a paid time-off plan, a four-day summer workweek, and health insurance with vision and dental coverage.

In addition, tuition waivers give employees and their families access to a world-class education with a broad selection of more than 30 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in aviation, aerospace, engineering, business, and related high-tech fields. The University recently received approval to offer its first doctoral programs, in aviation and in engineering physics. The Ph.D. in aviation is the first in the nation.

The Best Companies to Work For in Florida program was created by Florida Trend and the Best Companies Group and endorsed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals, the Florida Economic Development Council, the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, the Florida Society of Association Executives, and the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The goal of the program is to recognize exceptional companies that continually strive to build even better workplaces for their employees, thereby strengthening their own as well as Florida’s competitive advantage in the national and global arenas.

“We’ve highlighted the practices of companies that have established themselves as great places to work, including everything from how they train their workers to how they communicate and the kind of pay and benefits they provide,” said Mark Howard, Florida Trend executive editor. “This is a great opportunity for companies in Florida to learn from each other as they go about improving their own effectiveness.”

To be considered for selection as one of the Best Companies to Work For in Florida, each business had to be at least a year old and have at least 15 workers in Florida. For this program, a large company was defined as having 250 or more employees, a medium company 50 to 249 employees, and a small company up to 49 employees. The Best Companies Group evaluated each company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics, and measured employee satisfaction with a survey.
