Media Advisory: Embry-Riddle Celebrates Asian Heritage Month

EVENT
Kim Hardiman will be visiting Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus in celebration of Asian Heritage Month to perform a series of traditional Chinese dances. Her dances will include:

The Fan Dance – Symbolizing happiness
The Wushu Fan Dance – A martial arts dance
The Long Red Ribbon Dance – Symbolizing rain
The difficult Double Spears Dance – A Peking Opera martial art dance

A lecture and a question-and-answer session will follow the performance. Topics will include the history of the Year of the Ox; the origin of Chinese New Year; facts about the Chinese astrology calendar; and the use of animal symbolism in Asian culture.

Embry-Riddle students from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam will discuss their traditional celebrations.

This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the University Office of Diversity Initiatives.
