NEWS RELEASE
Phone: (386) 226-6525 Embry-Riddle Naval ROTC to Host Color Parade and Awards CeremonyDaytona Beach, Fla., April 8, 2008 -- The Naval ROTC will host its fifth annual Color Parade and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 10, at 4 p.m. on the soccer field next to the ICI Center at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Rear Admiral Victor G. Guillory, director of U.S. Navy Surface Warfare, will serve as the parade’s guest of honor. The event is free and open to the public. The Color Parade marks the end of a rigorous academic year for the Midshipmen Battalion and provides an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of selected members. In addition, the parade serves to connect the present to the past, using specific songs, drum cadences, and bugle calls to signal troop movements and hearken back to the days before instant electronic communication. This year’s parade will feature the U.S. Navy Southeast Region Band. Inspiring pride and patriotism through music, this incredibly popular 45-member marching band performs more than 500 engagements each year. The event culminates in the Pass-in-Review of the 150-member Embry-Riddle NROTC Battalion. The fifth largest in the country, the Midshipmen Battalion represents the very best of the U.S. Navy’s ROTC programs. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, offers more than 30 degree programs in its colleges of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business, and Engineering. The university educates more than 34,000 students annually in undergraduate and graduate programs at residential campuses in Prescott, Ariz., and Daytona Beach, Fla., through its Worldwide Campus at more than 130 centers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, and through online learning.
