Marie Curie Drama Launches Women’s History Month at Embry-Riddle
Daytona Beach, Fla., Feb. 8, 2007 -- A one-woman drama illustrating the life of scientist Marie Curie will kick off Women’s History Month at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on March 1.
In other performances in March, faculty and students will stage a dramatic multimedia interpretation of literary works by and about women, and a female faculty member will read excerpts from the memoir she wrote about her college years. In addition, three speakers will discuss famous female scientists, the role of women in the anti-communist Solidarity movement, and the differences in male and female communication styles. A Locks of Love donation event will also be held.
Presented by the Women’s History Month Committee at Embry-Riddle with funding from the university’s Office of Diversity Advancement, this roster of events takes as its theme “Generations of Women Moving History Forward,” a theme originated by the National Women’s History Project. It acknowledges the wisdom and tenacity of the generations of women who came before us as well as those who will follow us.
All events are free and open to the public and will be held on Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus at 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. For more information, please contact Dr. Joanne Detore-Nakamura, chair of the Women’s History Month Committee, at (386) 226-7903 or detor6ee@erau.edu.
