Two Embry-Riddle Students Honored with Wings Club Scholarships

Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 15, 2007 -- Two students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University have been honored by the Wings Club with scholarships of $5,000 each.

Nathanael Visser of Grand Haven, Mich., a senior majoring in aeronautical science at the university’s Prescott, Ariz., campus, was named the recipient of the annual Wings Club Scholarship. He is a member of that campus’s Golden Eagles Flight Team, which in 2007 won the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference, the sixth time the flying club has won. Visser plans a career in aviation.

Timothy Billon, of Clermont, Fla., was selected to receive a scholarship at the request of Mauricio Botelho, chairman of Embraer, one of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers. Botelho was honored with the Wings Club’s Distinguished Achievement Award for 2007. A senior majoring in aeronautical science at the university’s Daytona Beach, Fla., campus, Billon last summer completed a flight internship with Northwest Airlines in St. Paul, Minn., and plans a career in aviation.

Visser and Billon will receive their scholarship awards at the annual Wings Club Dinner-Dance on Oct. 26 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.

Founded in 1942, the Wings Club serves as a meeting place in New York City to promote the advancement and development of aeronautics and as a center for discussion of aviation matters and for services that aid members in their aeronautical activities.
