Embry-Riddle’s Homecoming Entertainment Goes “Prime Time”

Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 30, 2007 -- In keeping with its “Prime Time” theme, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Homecoming this year will feature such entertainment as country singer Keith Anderson, comedian Pablo Francisco, and a “Must See: Embry-Riddle” parade.

Other events during Embry-Riddle’s Homecoming Week, Nov. 6-11, include an Industry/Career Expo, a student talent show, and a showing of “The Simpsons Movie.” For the sports-minded, basketball, lacrosse, and rugby games are scheduled, as well as a golf tournament. Homecoming Week will wrap up with a Veterans Day ceremony.

The Homecoming events listed below are free and open to the public unless noted otherwise.

Tuesday, Nov. 6, through Friday, Nov. 9

Spirit Sign Contest. Students are invited to show their Embry-Riddle pride by decorating large wooden signs placed in the following locations around campus: Heritage Walkway, “A” Building Lawn, and Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park on the West Lawn. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Wednesday, Nov. 7

Networking Social. 3-5 p.m., ICI Center lobby, Embry-Riddle. Following the Industry/Career Expo, alumni and their guests are invited to mingle with other alumni in various career fields. Complimentary fingerfoods and beverages will be available to Expo registrants. Contact: (386) 226-6155.

Homecoming Kick-Off Social. 7-9 p.m., Red Tail Bar & Grill, Daytona Beach. Alumni and their guests are invited to enjoy complimentary fingerfoods at this casual, pay-as-you-go event at Red Tail, a local business owned by an Embry-Riddle alumnus. Contact: (386) 226-6155.

Movie on the Lawn: “The Simpsons Movie.” 8:30 p.m., Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park on the West Lawn, next to the John Paul Riddle Student Center, Embry-Riddle. In this animated feature film based on the hit TV series, Homer must save the world from a catastrophe of his own making. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 7-8

Industry/Career Expo. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. More than 100 employers in aviation/aerospace, business, engineering, and high-tech fields will be on hand to talk with jobseekers. Attendees should bring their resumes. Contact: (386) 226-6054.

Thursday, Nov. 8

Chalk Art Contest. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of Jack R. Hunt Library, Embry-Riddle. Student organizations and university departments will compete in creativity. Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Alumni Dinner Dance. 5-10 p.m., The Shores Resort & Spa, Daytona Beach Shores. Alumni can dance the night away at this semi-formal event hosted by the Alumni Relations Office. Tickets are $25. Reservations are required. Contact: (386) 226-6155.

Student Talent Show. 8 p.m., John Paul Riddle Student Center, Embry-Riddle. Pre-selected student acts will compete in the categories of individual, group, and band. Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Friday, Nov. 9

Homecoming Parade. 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Floats and performances created by student clubs and organizations will make their way through the Embry-Riddle campus, ending at the ICI Center. The best viewing of the parade performances will be at the Wright Flyer monument in front of Jack R. Hunt Library. Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Alumni Basketball Game. 5-7 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Two teams of former players will challenge each other in this opener for the Homecoming game. Admission is free for Embry-Riddle students with Eagle Card and for children under 6. Admission is $3 for Embry-Riddle alumni with Alumni I.D. Card, non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D., military with I.D., senior citizens over 55, and children 6 and older. Admission is $5 for all others. Admission also includes the Homecoming game. Tailgate Party. 5-7 p.m., ICI Center parking lot, Embry-Riddle. This party for the Embry-Riddle community has it all – live music by country singer/songwriter Keith Anderson, giveaways, and food and beverages. Anderson’s single “Lost in this Moment” was a 2007 Country Music Awards nominee for song of the year. Alumni attending the Tailgate Party are invited to visit the alumni tent. Homecoming Basketball Game. 7 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. The Eagles will take on the V-Hawks of Viterbo University. The Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime. Saturday, Nov. 10

Embry-Riddle Eagle Open Golf Tournament. 7:30 a.m. registration, 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, LPGA International, Champions Course, Daytona Beach. Presented by Consolidated-Tomoka Land Co. Alumni, faculty, staff, and university supporters are invited to participate in this annual 18-hole, four-person scramble. An awards luncheon follows play. Cost is $100 per player ($75 for alumni, faculty, and staff), and sponsorships are available. The event benefits the Champions of Character Scholarship program of Embry-Riddle’s Athletics Department. Fly-In Welcome and Static Display. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Embry-Riddle Flightline. Alumni flying their own aircraft to campus for the weekend are encouraged to arrive at the Embry-Riddle Flightline during this time period to be greeted by other alumni. A static display of classic warbirds may be viewed via the special gate at Tomcat parking lot from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contact: (386) 226-6155.

Alumni Campus Tours. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet at the Lehman Engineering and Technology Center, Embry-Riddle. Take a guided tour of campus to see the progress of new construction. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Contact: (386) 226-6155.

Homecoming Comedy Show. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Pablo Francisco, who has appeared on MADtv and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” will take the stage. This popular performer’s stand-up comedy style has been compared to that of Jim Carrey. The opening act is comedian Geoff Keith. Admission is free for Embry-Riddle students with Eagle Card and up to three guests; $10 for non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D., and military with I.D.; and $15 for all others.
