Embry-Riddle Plans Grand Opening of Apollo Residence Hall

Apollo Hall Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 28, 2007 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will hold a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest residence hall on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m. Refreshments and tours will be provided.

Apollo Hall, which broke ground in September 2006, measures 61,367 square feet and cost approximately $14 million. It is part of an investment of $125 million in new and planned construction at the Daytona Beach campus. Next to open, in January 2008, is a new Academic Hall that will contain the College of Business.

“Apollo Hall is a welcome addition to our campus housing program,” said Tom Hilgers, director of Housing and Residence Life. “This suite-style residence hall houses 256 sophomores, juniors, and seniors, includes group study areas on each floor, and boasts great views of the campus and the airport. With the increased capacity that Apollo Hall provides, we are now better able to meet the consistently strong demand for campus housing.”

The four-story concrete structure includes everything from residence hall rooms, lounge areas, and laundry rooms to open space and study areas. State-of-the-art technology includes wireless connection in study and lounge areas, data jacks in individual rooms, keyless entry, and building security. Apollo Hall was designed by JSA Architects and constructed by Stellar.

The name of the new residence hall, which reflects Embry-Riddle’s longtime connection with aviation and aerospace, was selected by housing residents and staff from options suggested by the Chancellor’s Office and the Dean of Students’ Office.
