Embry-Riddle and JetBlue Airways Enter into “Train the Trainer" Agreement

Daytona Beach, Fla., Feb. 7, 2006 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has been contracted by JetBlue Airways to help train the airline’s flight instructors.

The agreement calls for Embry-Riddle to deliver the “Initial Training Course” (TS1) and the “Recurrent Training Course” (TS2) to JetBlue’s “College of Flight” instructors beginning in early 2006. The instruction, which will be done by the Aeronautical Science department of Embry-Riddle’s College of Aviation, is designed to enrich the pilot training programs for JetBlue’s fleet of Airbus and Embraer aircraft.

As part of the plan, all current and new JetBlue flight instructors will be taking introductory and advanced courses designed to boost teaching effectiveness for instructors who provide academic and simulator training to front-line pilots.

“We are thoroughly excited about this relationship and what it may hold for the future,” said Tim Brady, dean of Embry-Riddle’s College of Aviation. “Our goal is to provide the finest pilot instruction in the industry, and JetBlue wants to provide its flight instructors with the best and latest information. It is a perfect fit,” Brady said.

“The flight training programs at JetBlue University rank among the best in the world,” said Mike Barger, vice president, JetBlue University. “Our collaboration with Embry-Riddle will allow us to elevate our world-class facility to a new level of effectiveness, and our JetBlue crewmembers will benefit greatly from this partnership.”

The goal of the program is to train all current instructors at JetBlue University’s “College of Flight” in Orlando, Fla. Training will take place at the Orlando facility and at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach, Fla., campus. Antonio Cortés, assistant professor of Aeronautical Science, is the program’s creator and will direct Embry-Riddle’s efforts.

“Embry-Riddle will teach JetBlue instructors how to create optimal learning environments designed specifically for JetBlue pilots,” said Cortés. “I have been very impressed by JetBlue’s zeal for enriching what is already a highly respected pilot training program.”

The JetBlue/Embry-Riddle agreement is a coming together of two extremely successful programs. JetBlue is an award-winning, low-cost airline, and Embry-Riddle has been training pilots for almost 80 years. Executives at both entities say the program will fuse the cultural values at JetBlue with the proven teaching methods at Embry-Riddle to provide custom-tailored instruction to the JetBlue training environment.
