Embry-Riddle Homecoming Features Colorful Parade, Athletic Events

Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 17, 2006 -- Homecoming at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University this year will feature comedian Jamie Kennedy, a colorful Heroes and Villains parade, several athletic events, and many other activities that are open to the community.

Events at Embry-Riddle’s Homecoming Oct. 25-28 also include a student talent show, a job expo, an open house for prospective students, a presentation on Embry-Riddle’s history, and a movie on the lawn. Basketball, golf, and rugby games are also scheduled.

All of the Homecoming events listed below are open to the public, and admission is free unless noted otherwise. Embry-Riddle is located at 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Daytona Beach.

Wednesday, Oct. 25

Movie on the Lawn: “Superman Returns.” 8:30 p.m., Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park, on the West Lawn next to the John Paul Riddle Student Center, Embry-Riddle. The blockbuster hit stars Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, and Kevin Spacey. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 25-26

Industry/Career Expo. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. More than 100 employers in aviation/aerospace, business, engineering, and high-tech fields will be on hand to talk with jobseekers. Contact: (386) 226-6054.

Thursday, Oct. 26

Student Talent Show. 8 p.m., Jack R. Hunt Aviator Park, on the West Lawn next to the John Paul Riddle Student Center, Embry-Riddle. Pre-selected student acts will compete in the categories of individual, group, and band. Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Friday, Oct. 27

Admissions Prospective Student Open House. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prospective students and their families should check in at 8 a.m. in Embry-Riddle’s ICI Center. Registration can be done in advance by calling (800) 862-2416 or (386) 226-6100. The morning program features an activities fair that will provide information on academic offerings at Embry-Riddle and student life areas such as housing, financial aid, dining services, and recreational sports. The afternoon program includes tours of the campus and residence halls and briefings on admission and financial aid programs.

Homecoming Heroes and Villains Parade. 4 p.m. Floats and performances created by campus organizations will make their way through the Embry-Riddle campus, ending at the ICI Center. The distribution of free novelties and the best viewing of the parade performances will be at the Wright Flyer monument in front of Hunt Library. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Homecoming Tailgate Party. 5 p.m., ICI Center parking lot, Embry-Riddle. The party includes live music featuring the rock band “Big 10-4,” free food, interactive games, and giveaways. Contact: (386) 226-6039.

Blue and Gold Men’s Basketball Alumni Game. 5:30 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Two teams of former players will challenge each other in this opener for the Homecoming game. Contact: (386) 323-5007.

Homecoming Men’s Basketball Game. 7 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. The Eagles will take on the Falcons of Fisher College. Before tip-off, former player Harold Pierson will be honored with the retirement of his jersey. The Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime. Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens over 55, military with I.D., children 6 and older, and non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D. Saturday, Oct. 28

EAA Golf Tournament. 8:30 a.m., with shotgun start, LPGA International, Daytona Beach. The cost for this scholarship fundraiser, which is hosted by the Eagles Athletic Association, is $100 per player. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. Contact: (386) 323-5020.

Comedian Jamie Kennedy. 8 p.m., ICI Center, Embry-Riddle. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Kennedy appeared in all three “Scream” films and starred in his own reality TV show, “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.” Tickets are $10 for the general public, $7 for military with I.D., and $7 for non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D.
