Embry-Riddle Establishes Future Pathfinders Scholarship for Students from the State of Washington

Prescott, Ariz., Oct. 7, 2005 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is recognizing the importance of The Museum of Flight's annual Pathfinder Award with the creation of a new Future Pathfinders Scholarship for outstanding State of Washington students. The Pathfinder Award, first bestowed by the Seattle museum in 1982, honors pioneering accomplishments in aviation and aerospace by individuals or teams with ties to the Pacific Northwest.

Embry-Riddle will establish five scholarships for high school seniors for significant achievements in education and leadership valued at $20,000 each based on four academic years of study at $5,000 per academic year. Upon maturity of the program, up to 20 Future Pathfinders scholars will be receiving a total of $100,000 of Embry-Riddle support annually.

The scholarships will be awarded to students enrolling in any of the university's four-year full-time undergraduate academic programs at either of its two locations, Prescott, Ariz., or Daytona Beach, Fla. The scholarships will be renewable annually as long as the student maintains both full-time status and a 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA).

"Embry-Riddle is proud to endorse initiatives that will introduce and support the goals of young men and women interested in studying engineering, emerging technologies, and management of new technology," said Gary Hamme, Embry-Riddle vice president of Marketing and Enrollment Management. "The university is especially proud to support initiatives for advancement of aviation and aerospace."

Selection of scholarship recipients will be based on all information supplied as part of a student's standard admissions application, plus a scholarship essay. Future Pathfinders Scholarship recipients will be recognized each year alongside the year's new Pathfinder honorees at the museum's Pathfinder Awards Gala. The 2005 gala will be held Saturday, Oct. 8.

Embry-Riddle will host a Saturday morning event Nov. 19 at The Museum of Flight dedicated to the scholarship program. Interested high school seniors and their families are invited to attend. Students will be able to submit their admission application and Embry-Riddle Future Pathfinders Scholarship application at the event.
