Embry-Riddle President George Ebbs Selected to NAIA Council of Presidents

George Ebbs Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 30, 2005 -- Dr. George Ebbs, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University president, has been elected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Council of Presidents (COP) as representative for the Florida Sun Conference. Ebbs’ term will begin immediately and extend through Dec. 31, 2006. He is fulfilling the remainder of the term relinquished by Flagler College’s William Abare Jr.

“I am thrilled to see Dr. Ebbs selected by his peers to the NAIA Council of Presidents,” said Embry-Riddle Director of Athletics Steve Ridder. “This is a tremendous honor and privilege for our president. His valuable experience as a leader will serve him well to make a positive impact in the structure of the NAIA and enhance the overall experience of NAIA student-athletes across the country.”

The Council of Presidents is the chief governing body of the NAIA. Conference representatives to the council include a president from each conference in the region, the regional director (NAIA staff), and the commissioner from each conference in the region.

“One of the more effective ways to influence NAIA policy is through your representative on the Council of Presidents,” said Steven B. Baker, NAIA president and chief executive officer. “I am confident Dr. Ebbs will serve your conference well.”

Ebbs joined Embry-Riddle in 1998 as its fourth president. Prior to joining Embry-Riddle, Ebbs was founder, CEO, and president of the Canaan Group, a management-consulting firm providing business strategy, market analysis, and business process improvement services to executives in the commercial aviation industry. He earned his Ph.D. in Business Policy and Organizational Management from Columbia University.
