Embry-Riddle, British Columbia Institute of Technology Launch Educational Exchange ProgramDaytona Beach, Fla., April 5, 2005 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will soon be able to offer a higher level of education to aerospace students from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) thanks to an articulation agreement the two schools signed March 22. The ceremony formalized the terms of last year’s memorandum of understanding, which stipulates that Embry-Riddle’s Extended Campus and BCIT will cooperate on educational, research, and exchange programs. The primary areas of concentration are technological management, aviation business administration, and aircraft maintenance. “This articulation agreement will result in the seamless transfer of BCIT students in diploma programs into the technical management or professional aeronautics degree programs at Embry-Riddle,” said Dr. Karen Shehi, Embry-Riddle Dean of Worldwide Center Operations. She added that Embry-Riddle plans to open an Extended Campus office at BCIT in the late spring to provide counseling and student services for distance-learning students. The original memorandum of understanding between the two schools includes an exchange of undergraduate students, an exchange of faculty and staff, cooperation on scientific and research programs, and collective work on distance-learning initiatives. The goal is to have an equal number of faculty and students participate in the exchange program. British Columbia Institute of Technology is Canada’s premier polytechnic institution, delivering courses of study leading to certificates, diplomas, and degrees in technologies, trades, business, and health sciences to approximately 50,000 students. BCIT’s aerospace campus at Vancouver International Airport combines advanced training technology and industry-experienced faculty to provide programs in aviation maintenance and repair. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, offers more than 30 degree programs in its colleges of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business, and Engineering and meets the needs of students and industry through educational, training, research, and consulting activities. Embry-Riddle educates more than 30,000 students annually in undergraduate and graduate programs at residential campuses in Prescott, Ariz., and Daytona Beach, Fla., through the Extended Campus at more than 130 centers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, and through distance learning. |
