Phone: 386-226-6525 Noted Political Scientist Joel Moses to Speak at Embry-Riddle
Free and open to the public, the event will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. in the L. Gale Lemerand Auditorium of the Capt. Willie Miller Instructional Center. It is presented as part of Embry-Riddle’s 2004-2005 Arts & Letters Series, chaired by professor Linda Straubel and sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. The program by the author/editor of the critically acclaimed book Dilemmas of Transition in Post-Soviet Countries focuses on a comparison of Russia with Latvia following the collapse of the U.S.S.R. in 1991. Moses is a professor emeritus at Iowa State University. He has also taught at Stetson University, the University of Latvia, the University of Wisconsin, the University of California, and Cornell University. A former Fulbright scholar, Moses received grants from the Ford Foundation, the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies, the Hoover Institution, and the National Council for Soviet and East European Research. Moreover, he has served as the editor of The Soviet and Post-Soviet Review and is a member of the board of trustees of The Current Digest of the Post-Soviet Press. Moses has been teaching about and researching comparative politics as well as Eastern Europe for more than 30 years. His other books include Major European Governments, Political Implications of Economic Reform in Communist Systems, and The Politics of Female Labor in the Soviet Union.
