Noted Author to Speak at Embry-Riddle on Vietnam WarDaytona Beach, Fla., Feb. 17, 2004 -- Dr. George Herring, author of the most widely used textbook in America on the Vietnam War, will give a talk titled "Vietnam: The War That Never Seems to Go Away" at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.Free and open to the public, the event will be held Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in the L. Gale Lemerand Auditorium of the Capt. Willie Miller Instructional Center. The program by the author of the critically acclaimed America's Longest War: The United States and Vietnam is presented as part of Embry-Riddle's 2003-2004 Arts and Letters Series and is co-sponsored by the university's Honors Program. Herring is Alumni Professor of History at the University of Kentucky. He has also taught at Ohio University, the University of Richmond, and the U.S. Military Academy, West Point. A former Fulbright Scholar, Herring received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Moreover, he has served as editor of the journal Diplomatic History and as president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. Herring has been teaching about and researching the Vietnam War for more than 25 years. He has made presentations on the subject throughout the United States and abroad.
