Embry-Riddle Hosts Conference on Team Resource Management
Daytona Beach, Fla., Feb. 18, 2003 -- The "International
Conference on Team Resource Management in the 21st Century" will
be held Oct. 23-24 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona
Beach, Fla.
The event is sponsored by Embry-Riddle and the Industrial
Psychology Group of the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
The conference will examine the application of human
factors concepts, which have been successfully used in
aviation crew settings, to groups in nonaviation industries.
"Anyone involved in professions that involve teamwork,
such as fire, police, medical, nuclear, and offshore drilling,
will find this conference invaluable in improving communication
between team members and promoting safe operations," said
Ted Beneigh, conference organizer and professor of aeronautical
science at Embry-Riddle.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Robert Helmreich of the
University of Texas. Other speakers include Dr. Rhona
Flin of the University of Aberdeen and Dr. C.Y. Kim of
Aviation University in Seoul, Korea.
Conference papers and presentations are sought in such
areas as conflict management, decision making, group communications,
group leadership, multiculturalism, team management, and
teamwork. Abstracts should be submitted by March 31. All
papers accepted for the conference will be included in
the Conference Proceedings.
The $250 U.S. registration fee includes a reception the
evening before the conference, luncheon the day of the
conference, and an optional tour of the Kennedy Space
Center at Cape Canaveral the day after the conference,
with transportation provided. Attendees may also tour
the Embry-Riddle campus, including the new state-of-the-art
Aviation Building.
Transportation to and from Embry-Riddle and the nearby
Daytona Beach International Airport will be provided.
Delta Air Lines and two hotels adjacent to the university
are offering discounts.
