Embry-Riddle Plans Wings & Waves Air and Sea Show, Homecoming Events

Four Embry-Riddle Alumni on U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Team

Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 29, 2003 -- The Wings & Waves air and sea show that includes a concert by popular rock group Sugar Ray is the main attraction in a series of special events Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will hold Nov. 5-9.

Wings & Waves: Embry-Riddle Celebrates the Centennial of Flight, a two-day show featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the world's top aerobatic champions, and personnel demonstrating race boats and marine search-and-rescue operations, is expected to attract some 200,000 spectators.

The visiting Thunderbirds team includes four members who hold master's degrees in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle's Extended Campus: Maj. Matthew R. Beckley, Maj. Todd D. Canterbury, Capt. D. Chris Callaghan, and Capt. Chris R. Stricklin. They will be marking the 50th anniversary of the Thunderbirds.

The history theme is continued in Embry-Riddle's Homecoming parade, where floats created by students will bring to life the people and events of 100 years of flight. In addition, Embry-Riddle professors will give presentations on the Wright brothers and the history of Embry-Riddle.

This year's Veterans Day ceremony will have even more meaning, as only days earlier Embry-Riddle welcomes Navy ROTC to campus, to join units of Air Force and Army ROTC. On the lighter side are a student talent show and the Homecoming basketball game.
