Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Accreditation Reaffirmed
Daytona Beach, Fla., Dec. 13, 2002 -- The Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS - 1866 Southern
Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, Telephone: 404-679-4501)
has reaffirmed Embry-Riddle's regional accreditation for
another 10 years. The announcement came this week in San
Antonio at the SACS annual meeting.
Embry-Riddle is one of the most complex and geographically
distributed universities in the southern association,
having residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla., and
Prescott, Ariz., with an Extended Campus composed of more
than 150 teaching centers in the United States and Europe.
The university educates more than 25,000 students annually.
"The accreditation of our university certainly presented
a challenge to the four SACS visiting teams during the
past 12 months," said Dr. George Ebbs, president of Embry-Riddle.
"We are very proud of our success at communicating the
strengths of our Three-Campus, One University enterprise
to the SACS team members." He attributes the excellent
showing to a unified effort from all three campuses.
"This three-year reaffirmation effort has brought us
all closer together and has underscored our mutual dependence
and the value of working together," Ebbs said.
The Embry-Riddle self-study team working with SACS on
the evaluation was led by Dr. Jim Cunningham, associate
provost of undergraduate programs.
"We were pleased that the institution was complimented
for the Living and Learning Residence Hall Program at
the Daytona Beach Campus, the videophone communication
system connecting multiple Extended Campus centers, the
Student Success program at the Prescott Campus, and the
library networking throughout the university. These are
student support areas in which we try to excel, and it
was rewarding that the visiting SACS teams took notice,"
Cunningham said.
Embry-Riddle, the world's largest, fully accredited university
specializing in aviation and aerospace, meets the needs
of students and industry through its educational, training,
research, and consulting activities. Embry-Riddle educates
more than 25,000 students annually through the master's
level at residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla.,
and Prescott, Ariz., at more than 150 teaching centers
in the United States and Europe, and through distance
learning.
