U.S. News & World Report Again Rates
Aerospace Engineering at Embry-Riddle Best in Nation;
University Advances in Overall Ranking
Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 23, 2002 -- For the third straight year,
U.S. News & World Report has ranked Embry-Riddle's aerospace
engineering program No. 1 in the nation among schools
without doctorate programs. The magazine also placed the
university in the top tier of all schools in the south*
without doctorate programs.
For the first time, the magazine's "Best Colleges" guide
treated Embry-Riddle's two residential campuses separately
in the engineering category for schools without doctorate
programs, and gave excellent ratings to both. While the
Daytona Beach, Fla., campus claimed the No. 1 spot in
the aerospace engineering specialty, the Prescott, Ariz.,
campus was honored with the No. 4 ranking. The ranking
for all undergraduate engineering degree programs placed
the Daytona Beach campus at No. 10 nationally and the
Prescott campus at No. 20.
Among all universities in the south without doctorate
programs, Embry-Riddle's Daytona Beach campus moved into
a tie for No. 25, up from No. 31 last year.
"To stand atop the academic world in any field is a
monumental achievement," said Embry-Riddle President George
Ebbs. "This university takes great pride in its students,
faculty, and staff. To have the accomplishments of this
group acknowledged by U.S. News is truly rewarding."
Embry-Riddle offers the following degrees in engineering:
bachelor's in aerospace engineering, aircraft engineering
technology, avionics engineering technology, civil engineering,
computer engineering, electrical engineering, software
engineering, and engineering physics; master's in aerospace
engineering, software engineering, and space science (space
sciences engineering).
U.S. News & World Report bases its regional rankings
on the following factors: reputation, graduation and retention
rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial
resources, and alumni giving rates. Rankings in the engineering
categories are based on academic reputation alone.
*(Schools without doctorate programs are ranked within
four geographic regions)
