Three New Trustees Join Embry-Riddle
Daytona Beach, Fla., June 10, 2002 -- Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University has appointed aerospace executives
Lawrence Clarkson, Robert Johnson, and Nick Tomassetti
to its Board of Trustees.
Clarkson
recently retired as president of Boeing Enterprises, where
he was responsible for new commercial airplane and aerospace-related
business ventures, joint ventures, and other relationships
outside the traditional scope of Boeing's business. He
also served the Boeing Company as an elected senior vice
president. Earlier, he had a 20-year career with Pratt
& Whitney, rising from staff lawyer to become president
of the commercial products division.
Active in many organizations with a focus on the Pacific
Rim, Clarkson is vice chairman of the National Bureau
of Asian Research, chairman of the U.S. Pacific Economic
Cooperation Council, and a member of the U.S.-Japan Joint
High Level Advisory Panel. He holds a bachelor's degree
from DePauw University and a law degree from the University
of Florida.
As
president and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace, Johnson leads
the world's largest supplier of aircraft engines, equipment,
systems, and services for commercial transport, regional,
general aviation, and military aircraft. Prior to that,
he held several executive roles at AlliedSignal, starting
as vice president and general manager of global repair
and overhaul operations, then moving up to successively
lead the company's aerospace services, electronic and
avionics systems, and finally aerospace marketing, sales
and services.
Earlier in his career, Johnson held management positions
with GE Aircraft Engines and AAR Corp. He is a graduate
of Miami University.
Tomassetti,
who is retired, was president and CEO of Airbus Industrie
of North America Holdings Inc. (AINA). He previously served
AINA as president and chief operating officer where he
was responsible for sales, contracts, market planning,
and sales finance for U.S. and Canadian customers.
Tomassetti also held positions as vice president and
general manager of twin business development for McDonnell
Douglas Corp. and executive vice president of Pratt &
Whitney's commercial engine business organization. During
more than 30 years at Pratt & Whitney, he held positions
in engineering, marketing and customer support. He also
was elected president of International Aero Engines, a
five-nation consortium, including Pratt & Whitney, that
was formed to develop and market the IAE V2500 aircraft
engine.
Tomassetti earned an engineering degree from General
Motors Institute and a master's degree in engineering
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
