U.S. News & World Report Names Embry-Riddle's Aerospace Engineering Program Best in Nation

Magazine logoDaytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 7, 2001 -- For the second year in a row, the undergraduate aerospace engineering program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has been ranked No. 1 among the nation's schools without a Ph.D. program in U.S. News & World Report's annual college guide.

In the specialty ranking for aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering, Embry-Riddle outranked the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs; California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; St. Louis University, Mo.; and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, among others.

Last fall, Embry-Riddle had 880 aerospace engineering students at its Daytona Beach, Fla., campus and 416 at its Prescott, Ariz., campus, making its aerospace engineering program the largest in the United States, according to Dr. Barry Benedict, senior vice president and chief academic officer.

In the category of best overall undergraduate engineering programs at schools without a Ph.D. program, U.S. News & World Report ranks Embry-Riddle 14th in the nation, up one spot from last year. Embry-Riddle offers the following degrees in engineering: bachelor's in aerospace engineering, aircraft engineering technology, avionics engineering technology, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and engineeering physics; master's in aerospace engineering and software engineering.

The magazine's 15th annual special edition, "America's Best Colleges," will go on sale Monday, Sept. 10. The rankings will appear in the Monday, Sept. 17, issue of U.S. News & World Report, which will also appear on newsstands Sept. 10, and on the magazine's website at www.usnews.com. Compiled for college-bound students and their parents, the annual rankings of U.S. public and private colleges and universities are based on statistical data and academic reputation.

Embry-Riddle, the world's largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, meets the needs of students and industry through its educational, training, research, and consulting activities. Embry-Riddle educates 23,000 students through the master's level at residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz., at more than 100 teaching centers in the United States and Europe, and through distance learning.
