Embry-Riddle Training Pilots for Tunisair
Daytona Beach, Fla., June 2, 2000 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has embarked on a three-year contract to train pilot candidates for Tunisair, the state-owned airline that provides passenger and charter service in Tunisia.
"We are very pleased that Tunisair has selected Embry-Riddle as the initial training provider for their newest airline pilots," said Paul McDuffee, vice president of aviation training at Embry-Riddle. "The opportunity to serve Tunisair represents an important milestone in our effort to provide quality aviation training to respected airlines throughout the world."
The contract calls for the Center for Aviation Training at Embry-Riddle (CATER), located in DeLand, Fla., to train 10 pilots from Tunisair each year. In April, the first group of students began an eight-month program in which they will receive all flight and ground training leading to an FAA commercial pilot certificate with multi-engine and instrument ratings. The group includes two women, the first females to receive training at CATER under an international contract.
The training package includes pre- and post-flight briefings, ground training, and course and examination materials. Students will also receive training in aviation English language and in crew resource management--procedures used by flight crews working together as a team. The university will provide housing, transportation, some meals, and leisure activities to introduce the trainees to the local culture.
CATER has delivered non-degree training for organizations that include Air Tours International, Al Salam Aircraft Co., Argentina's Instituto Nacional de Aviacion Civil, Atlantic Coast Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority of China, Emirates Airlines, Regional Airlines of France, Saudi Arabian Airlines, and Turkish Airlines.
The Center for Aviation Training at Embry-Riddle offers contract training in such areas as ab initio flight training, airframe and powerplant, air traffic control, aviation English, aviation safety, avionics, crew resource management, flight dispatch, and prejet transition. Single- and multi-engine aircraft are available, as well as single-engine, multi-engine, turboprop, and jet transport simulators. Research and consulting services are also offered.
Information about CATER's training programs is available by phone at 1-877-904-3746 (USA only) or at 386-740-6944 (worldwide), by e-mail at cater@db.erau.edu, and on the Internet at cater.erau.edu.
