Embry-Riddle Offers Three Undergraduate Degree Programs Online
Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 10, 2000 -- The College of Career Education (CCE), the academic delivery arm of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Extended Campus, now offers three undergraduate programs online, as well as the general education courses that support them. Students may earn the following degrees through web-based courses: the associate of science and the bachelor of science in professional aeronautics and the bachelor of science in management of technical operations. The CCE has offered the master in aeronautical science degree program online since 1992.
The professional aeronautics program was developed for people who work or have worked in aviation careers. The program consists of an aviation area of concentration, professional development courses, and required and elective courses in aeronautical science, business, communication, computer science, economics, humanities, mathematics, physical science, and social science. (Students earning the associate degree do not complete the professional development element of the degree program.) For the aviation area of concentration element, students may receive academic credits for previous aviation experience and learning.
The bachelor of science in management of technical operations is a comprehensive, flexible business program designed for the student who already has technical expertise gained through previous coursework, licensing, or experience. The student is prepared for increased responsibility and management opportunities through the combination of previous experience, the program's technical management core courses, and the required and elective courses in business, communication, computer science, economics, humanities, mathematics, physical science, and social science.
Prior learning credit may be given for coursework at other colleges and universities; training and experience gained with the U.S. military, other governmental agencies, and private organizations; national standardized tests, such as CLEP and DANTES; and certain aviation licenses and ratings.
Before the beginning of each term, textbooks and other hard-copy materials are sent to the students and supplemental online materials are posted to the course web site. Online instructors interact with the students through the web to help them with class materials and to provide feedback on tests and assignments.
Since 1970, Embry-Riddle has provided educational opportunities for professionals working in civilian and military aviation and aerospace careers. To meet the varied needs of the adult working student, Embry-Riddle established the Extended Campus, which includes the CCE's classroom and distance learning operations.
The Extended Campus maintains a comprehensive system of academic quality control, sustaining the requirements and elements of courses as delivered on Embry-Riddle's residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz. The curricula, academic standards, and academic policies are the same throughout the university.
The CCE gives working adults the opportunity to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees at a network of 130 U.S. and European teaching centers and classroom sites located at or near major aviation industry installations, both civilian and military. Students who don't live near a CCE teaching center may enroll in many of the same programs through distance learning.
Students receive personalized academic advisement whether they take their classes in the classroom or by distance learning. Classroom instruction is conducted during hours convenient for working students, and distance learning students can work on their studies at any time, and at any place, that is convenient for them.
