Embry-Riddle and AirNet Express Sign Pilot Hiring Agreement
Daytona Beach, Fla., Jan. 24, 2000 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and AirNet Express have signed an agreement to implement a New-Hire Bridge Program that will enable Embry-Riddle students to become pilots for AirNet Express upon graduation.
The comprehensive agreement establishes selection criteria, course requirements, and minimum flight experience requirements and provides a career track for qualified students in the aeronautical science degree program at Embry-Riddle's residential campuses. Under the agreement, selected students will be given consideration for employment with AirNet Express. Before accepting employment with AirNet, participants must gain a minimum of 1,100 flight hours, of which at least 500 are to be gained as a certified flight instructor at Embry-Riddle.
AirNet Express, based in Columbus, Ohio, is a growing air courier business with a fleet of twin-engine piston aircraft and Learjets providing time-critical delivery of documents and small packages throughout the United States. It is the leading carrier for more than 300 of the nation's largest banks.
"This agreement, our first new-hire bridge program with a non-airline courier express, moves us in an exciting new direction and will diversify opportunities for our students," said Tim Brady, dean of the School of Aviation at Embry-Riddle.
"The Embry-Riddle graduates we've hired in the past have done a great job, and last fall we signed up 10 more at the university's Career Expo. This agreement will further strengthen our working relationship," said Craig Washka, AirNet's director of pilot recruiting and development.
Embry-Riddle and AirNet will jointly screen and select for the program candidates who have completed the sophomore year of the aeronautical science program. Both parties will agree on specific course and program development, and Embry-Riddle instructors will instruct students in AirNet's procedures and standards.
Embry-Riddle also has new-hire bridge agreements with Atlantic Coast Airlines and Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
Embry-Riddle, the world's largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, meets the needs of students and industry through its educational, training, research, and consulting activities. Degree programs through the master's level are offered at residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz., at more than 100 teaching sites in the United States and Europe, and through independent study and distance education.
