Daytona Beach, Fla., May 4, 1999 -- Dr. George Ebbs, president of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, recently announced two appointments at the school's Daytona Beach campus. Dr. Thomas Connolly has been selected as interim chancellor and Dr. Abe Harraf as dean of Academics.
"I have great confidence in the abilities of Tom and Abe to lead the efforts of the Daytona Beach campus," said Dr. Ebbs. "Together, they will build the foundation for the chancellor's role for the campus and create a unified, shared vision for the campus and the university."
As interim chancellor, Connolly will serve as the chief administrative officer of the campus and will be responsible for the overall planning, resource allocation, and program evaluation of campus activities. He will work closely with President Ebbs and the university vice presidents on all matters concerning the Daytona Beach campus. The chancellor position is being established for the campus and Connolly will serve in this role until the position is filled.
Connolly has been with Embry-Riddle since 1973 and has served in a variety of faculty and administrative positions in the aeronautical science and flight departments. He most recently served as the dean of the School of Aviation and is a professor of aeronautical science with tenure.
Harraf, in concert with the chancellor and the provost, will be responsible for the overall quality and administration of all campus-based academic programs. He will coordinate the activities of the department chairs and their faculty and will advise the chairs on faculty recruitment and evaluation, promotion and tenure, budget management, academic programming, and academic policies and procedures. He will also be responsible for all academic support units.
Harraf joined Embry-Riddle in 1984 and has served in a variety of academic leadership positions at both the Prescott and Daytona campuses.
