Air Force ROTC Detachment Named Best in Nation

Daytona Beach, Fla., Aug. 9, 1999 -- Detachment 157, based at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been named the best of 143 Air Force ROTC detachments in the nation by AFROTC Headquarters. The Right of Line award will be presented in a ceremony at Embry-Riddle later this year.

Det. 157 initially took High Flight honors as the best Southeast Region detachment, competing with groups from Puerto Rico, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Its record of results was then compared to those of the other regional winners: Purdue University, University of Oklahoma, and University of Washington. Det 157. was judged to be the best of the best.

The detachments were evaluated on their size, their consistency in producing large numbers of high-quality commissioned officers for the Air Force, and their field-training performance.

Also taken into consideration were individual awards won by cadets and assigned Air Force personnel during the past year. The biennial headquarters inspection of Det. 157 rated its six management functions outstanding overall. This is the highest rating possible and the only one to have been awarded to an AFROTC detachment in more than three years.
