Embry-Riddle Launches Executive MBA Program

Daytona Beach, Fla., Jan. 30, 1998 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will offer an Executive MBA program beginning in June 1998.

The university's program is unique in that it is expressly tailored for professionals in the aviation/aerospace industry. The program combines the advanced business concepts of a master of business administration curriculum and extensive use of case studies from the aviation/aerospace industry.

Dr. Abe Harraf, chairman of Embry-Riddle's Business Administration Department, said, "The curriculum provides a solid foundation of traditional business topics, plus advanced coursework in areas such as strategic management, communications and teamwork, technology and innovation management, and designing the high-performance organization. Graduates of this program will emerge with the management skills and strategic decision-making capabilities to compete in the increasingly complex and challenging global marketplace."

The program is structured to provide a full MBA curriculum to its participants in 18 months with the least possible disruption to their professional and personal lives. The program is conducted at the university's Daytona Beach, Fla., campus in a series of six two-week residency sessions, approximately one session per calendar quarter. During the residency sessions, classes are held during the day, with evenings devoted to study and group projects. Periods between residency sessions are spent on program-related readings, class preparation, completion of individual and group assignments, and a comprehensive executive project.

Emphasis in course selection has been placed on topics expected to best meet the needs of industry executives, with courses grouped in the focus areas of organizational evolution, cross-functional competencies, leadership and entrepreneurship, and global strategic thinking.

The faculty in the Embry-Riddle EMBA program are recognized leaders from three areas: successful senior managers from the aviation/aerospace industry, visiting professors from business faculties at other esteemed academic institutions, and the faculty of Embry-Riddle's Business Administration Department.

Admission requirements for the program include:

  • An undergraduate degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Extensive work experience, some at the management/supervisory level
  • Formal application, including university transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a description of the applicant's goals and expectations
  • A sponsorship agreement or acknowledgment from the applicant's organization
