Embry-Riddle/FlightSafety Simulator Receives FAA Level-D
Certification
LaGuardia Airport, New York, July 22, 1997 -- The
new Beech 1900D full flight simulator, at the Advanced Flight
Simulation Center at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's
Daytona Beach campus, has received the FAA's Level-D certification.
The new simulator is a component in the educational partnership of ERAU and FlightSafety, established to provide a wide range of pilot training and academic opportunities for the university's
students. The collaboration will also create a research and development environment for the aviation
industry through the joint efforts of FlightSafety and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, as well
as provide initial and recurrent training for airline customers.
The new building on the Embry-Riddle campus provides full
flight simulator training facilities, certified to the
FAA's highest level, that will be integrated into the
University's advanced aviation courses. A Level-D simulator
for the Boeing 737-300 was recently installed beside the
Beech 1900D simulator.
The advanced simulators will be operated co-operatively by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
and FlightSafety to serve as a new resource for educators at the institution. Embry-Riddle and
FlightSafety will combine higher education with the disciplines of advanced aircraft operation and
flight training. The partnership will offer college academic courses that provide credits toward a
university degree. These courses will be available to the cadets in FlightSafety's ab initio pilot
training programs.
The simulators for the University's Daytona Beach, Florida, campus training center were designed
and built in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by FlightSafety Simulation. They are equipped with VITAL ChromaView
visual systems and panoramic VITAL MultiView displays manufactured by FSI's Visual Systems Division
in St.Louis, Missouri.
The Advanced Flight Simulation Center at Embry-Riddle creates research opportunities for the
University's students as well as providing student and commercial pilot training services. The new
center offers classroom and briefing rooms, a conference room, self-learning laboratory and other
training support facilities.
FlightSafety International is headquartered at New York's LaGuardia Airport. The company was founded
at the airport's Marine Air Terminal 46 years ago.
