AOPA and Embry-Riddle Announce Landmark Partnership to Complement Embry-Riddle Curriculum
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Aircraft Owners
and Pilots Association (AOPA) have entered into an exclusive
partnership that will provide AOPA benefits and services
to complement the education of Embry-Riddle students.
"We at Embry-Riddle are looking forward to our partnership with
AOPA and its benefits for our students. With AOPA's vast informational and
'real world' resources, students will have a real opportunity to enhance
their education and their future careers," said Dr. Steven Sliwa, Embry-Riddle
president.
"This agreement links two leaders in aviation -- the leader in aviation
education and the leader in information and representation for pilots,"
added AOPA President Phil Boyer.
Embry-Riddle's 2,560 flight students, plus faculty and staff, will be
the first to enjoy the benefits of this new AOPA cooperative program with
the University. The University also will offer special partnership opportunities
to other Embry-Riddle on-campus and Extended Campus students, and to alumni.
Also under the arrangement, 10% of the AOPA dues of all Embry-Riddle
alumni will be donated to a new AOPA Career Pathways Scholarship Fund at
the University.
AOPA services will be of special value in helping students stay current
on aviation technical, regulatory, and safety issues affecting their training
and future careers. In addition, the AOPA Air Safety Foundation will provide
safety training materials, seminars, and courses for Embry-Riddle students.
Programs and services will be available at both Embry-Riddle residential
campuses.
In addition to on-campus programs, Embry-Riddle students will be able
to access AOPA resources via computer through AOPA ONLINE on the Internet
and via toll-free 800 line to AOPA's staff of technical and regulatory experts.
AOPA's fax-on-demand AVFAX system also will be used to obtain documents
and resources in near-real time.
Services available to students online include searchable databases for
research projects, direct requests for information, online weather briefings,
and networking opportunities with aviation professionals through online
messaging areas.
Embry-Riddle has the largest aeronautical science (professional pilot)
degree program in the U.S., making it the country's leading institution
in aviation and aerospace education.
With residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona,
plus an extensive network of education centers throughout the U.S. and other
countries, Embry-Riddle offers a comprehensive education to prepare students
for productive careers in aviation, aerospace engineering, and related fields.
The 340,000-member AOPA, with a staff of 180 based in Frederick, Maryland,
and in offices in Washington, D.C., Oklahoma City, and Wichita, Kansas,
is the world's largest aviation organization.
More than 55% of all U.S. pilots are members of AOPA.
