Embry-Riddle Breaks Ground for Advanced Flight Simulation Center

Daytona Beach, Fla., April 9, 1996 -- President Steven M. Sliwa and the Board of Trustees of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will preside over the ground breaking ceremony for the Advanced Flight Simulation Center Friday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held behind the Jack R. Hunt Library on the Embry-Riddle campus and will be followed by a reception.

Ground breaking ceremonyThe Advanced Flight Simulation Center, the result of a partnership between Embry-Riddle and FlightSafety International, will give student pilots the opportunity to train in world-class, jet airliner simulators not available at any other private institution in the United States. The University has budgeted $2.5 million to design and build the 25,000-square foot center with high bays to accommodate up to four simulators. FlightSafety International will provide two FAA Level "D" simulators, a Boeing 737-300 and a Beech 1900 D, which offer full motion training. The virtual reality based simulators, which cost between $10 and $12 million each, are capable of duplicating adverse weather conditions, a full range of emergency situations, and any airport or flight pattern in the world. The Advanced Flight Simulation Center will become a focal point for the University's relationships with airlines, governments, and corporations. The center will be fully operational by Spring 1997.
